We originally had scheduled a family brunch for the Bitches. However, this was re-scheduled for a later time because the whole family was not available at this time. For my Big/Little Date, Ricky took me to Century City and Sawtelle. At Century City, we walked around window shopping. We ended up going into Macy's to search for outfits to embarrass each other in. For Ricky's outfit, I decided to yassify him. Ricky expressed an interest in wearing a dress, so I decided to make it my mission to get him to wear a dress. I ended up going for a light blue, floral maxi dress that I thought had a nice color palette to suit him. After he tried it on, he decided to put me in a terrible outfit. The outfit included a leopard button up, a bright green boys football t-shirt, the ugliest shorts you've ever seen, and my tapatio socks. We also went into the container store but we won't get into that. After some shopping, we went to Century City. We got some boba from Sunright and then got some Filipino food from Big Boi. At Big Boi, Ricky tried lumpia for the first time. Then, we went and got Brian's Shave Ice. At this, we ended up seeing Johnny Juice out in the open. After talking for a while, we went back to campus. Enjoy this photo of me and Ricky in his dress:

An area of law that I am interested in is Entertainment Law. Entertainment law is the collection of the many areas of law that impact the entertainment industry. Entertainment Lawyers are both transactional and litigation lawyers. Seemingly, Entertainment Lawyers may also have a private practice or act as part of an in-house counsel for production studios. If working for a production studio, such as WarnerMedia, the Entertainment Lawyer’s sole client is the given production studio. Whereas, those with a private practice can contract a number of different clients. Since coming to school in Los Angeles, this profession has piqued my interest due to the fact that, in terms of law, it seems to share the most in common with my past creative experiences. Though some may do it all, it is common for most Entertainment Lawyers to specialize in a specific sub-division of the field. Within Entertainment Law, there are a multitude of sectors in which an entertainment lawyer can partake in. These practices include: contract law, non-compete agreements, litigation, labor and employment law, and compliance law. From reading about the various types of practices within Entertainment Law, I would consider either litigation or contract law. Contract law is a large part of entertainment law in that drafting and negotiating contracts is a key part of the entertainment industry. This practice seems to focus a lot on making sure clients needs are met in contracts as they often are dealing with large amounts of money. It can also include preparing form agreements for appearances, releases, and license locations, as well as work on financing agreements for things like: sponsorships, bank loans, co-production investments, and grants. To understand contracting, it would include a wide array of knowledge from various subjects such as: securities law, employment law, labor law, contracting, intellectual property, and etc. In comparison, Litigation occurs after a contract is drafted. Though these contracts are meant to be carefully and precisely crafted, disagreements are still likely to transpire. In addition to this, Litigation can also deal with resolving employment disputes, torts, and any other type of wrong. To be successful in Litigation it is recommended that the person is highly experienced in civil procedure, trial advocacy, and alternative dispute resolutions. One thing that is important to consider when thinking of Entertainment Law is that the job would require a more restrictive set of clients as well as locations. Considering it is focused on the entertainment industry, Entertainment Lawyers will have to be willing to work primarily in active zones of entertainment (i.e.- Los Angeles and New York). While it is not impossible to practice outside of these zones, it is incredibly hard to have a successful, long career when it is not in an entertainment industry hotspot. Despite how grueling Entertainment Law can be, it seems to pose many benefits. I think that Entertainment Law is one the greatest opportunities in Law to meet and be around such famous, creative people. Being surrounded by creativity is something that I personally value due to my extensive background in art. Additionally, Entertainment Law allows lawyers to hone in a particular subset of law that is in high demand within the entertainment industry. Similarly, it is a great option for those wanting to live in large entertainment spots as Entertainment Law is incredibly successful within these regions. Though akin to many other fields of Law, it seems that Entertainment Law is a high-stakes industry that is fast-paced. As someone who works best under pressure, I find this challenge draws me into the field even more so.

A law school that I am interested in applying to is Yale Law School. Located in New Haven, Connecticut, Yale is one of the top law schools in the nation. Going to a t14 Law school would be incredibly beneficial to any law career. One of the initial reasons I was attracted to Yale Law is its location. Considering I have lived on the West coast my entire life, I would love the opportunity to go live somewhere new. I am a wanderlust so I like to go to new places and live in new places. As much as I love Los Angeles, I think I will have explored enough by the time I’ve graduated. I also think it would be nice to live in a small-town. Additionally, it would be fun to experience the seasons since that isn’t something I am used to since I am from California. With an acceptance rate below 8%, it is extremely hard to get into Yale. On top of having a top LSAT score, admits GPA typically average to be 3.94. Meaning, getting into Yale is probably near impossible unless you have amazing scores all around. On the bright side, if you attend Yale, the pass rate for the bar exam is 98% for Yale students. Therefore, passing the bar exam should be much easier in terms of rate -- than getting into Yale. At Yale, the academic year is divided into a Fall and Spring Term. The Fall term starts in mid-August and goes on until December. Whereas, the Spring Term starts January and goes on until mid-May. On top of the students' own class schedule, the YLS also holds events throughout the year. These events range from: an Alumni weekend in October to student wellness events throughout the academic year. As the end of Spring term is approaching at Yale, it appears that there are many mental health resources to help students as they navigate the ending of their school year. Another interesting event they do is Fridays with Firms, these firms are those that will appear in Yale’s virtual interview program in the summer. These Fridays with Firms is an amazing resource for Yale Law students. It allows them to network with firms that will be participating in the virtual interview program. The virtual interview program is a week-long event that happens in August, in which it allows the class of 2024 (for this year's VIP) to secure a job for the next year’s summer. Thus, the VIP allows second-year law students to secure summer jobs in the following year. Another interesting aspect that I am particularly intrigued by is the law journals offered at Yale. YLS has three major law journals: Yale Journal of Law and Feminism, Yale Journal of International Law, and Yale Law and Policy Review. Apart from these Law journals, there are still a multitude of non-subscription based journals that our student-ran at YLS. In addition to these things, Yale also offers one of the largest summer public interest work in the law school world. The Summer Public Interest Fellowship includes the Summer Fellowship Aid which awards over 200 students with assistance in their debt. Being such a top-tier school, Yale is extremely costly. The cost of attendance is 69k for Tuition alone. However, when adding up all the costs it results in almost 100k in all. Considering how expensive it is, there are various scholarships offered at Yale. These include: SPIF, need-based scholarships, and outside scholarships that can be found through Yale’s provided Law scholarship websites. Another thing that I am also considering with Law School is doing a joint degree. So, I think it is nice knowing that this is an option at Yale. At YLS, you can get a joint degree in programs such as: Business Administration, Arts, Environmental Management, Public Policy, Finance, as well as a Doctorates degree. Joint degrees can be petitioned as early as the spring quarter of their first year of law school. Since there are no joint admissions, students must be accepted into YLS, as well as the program of their choice. From there, it can then be petitioned and it will usually be granted. In rare cases, joint degree can also occur with relevant programs at other universities.

For this weekend’s journal, I will be researching more on the Sunrise Movement. The Sunrise Movement is a 501c political action organization in the U.S. Having launched in 2017, Sunrise has quickly gained footing nationally. The organization is a youth-led organization with regional hubs across America that address concerns over the climate crisis and implementing the Green New Deal. The GND (Green New Deal) is something crucial to what the Sunrise Movement advocates for and serves as a baseline for change. As stated on their website, “The Green New Deal is a congressional resolution to mobilize every aspect of American society to 100% clean and renewable energy, guarantee living-wage jobs for anyone who needs one, and a just transition for both workers and frontline communities—all in the next 10 years.” This plan by Ed Markey and AOC is something that is implemented into much of what the Sunrise Movement does. In the organization, there are regional hubs that cover a certain area. For instance, Los Angeles has its own hub that hyper-focuses on issues and policies within Los Angeles itself. On top of this, there is als a national hub which includes those much higher up in the organization. Similarly, the national hub will garner help from regional hubs across the nation for much more broad areas of concern that affect the country as a whole. Within these hubs, there lies multiple various teams you can work on. While the main goal of Sunrise is to garner attention and implement change within our government, these teams help work towards that goal while also focusing more on each individual’s interests. For example, there is a group focused solely on policy-making, in which you read, analyze, and review various policies. There is also a communications team which focuses more on teaching and relaying the movement’s goals to new members. The organization is particularly involved in elections. They also partner with other organizations when they believe the things in which they are advocating for are out of the jurisdiction of their opinion and oversight. For instance, during the Black Lives Matter movement, Sunrise partnered with many Black-led organizations to help aid in support of the movement. Sunrise has also been known to partner with celebrities, especially those involved in politics. For instance, they just partnered with Jane Fonda for a phone bank in which she made an appearance for. Elections are a significant part of gaining political power for the Sunrise movement, therefore these periods there is high activity within the hubs. One of the main things that the Sunrise will host are nation-wide, regional-wide, and state-wide phone banking. Depending on who they want to push for a candidate, the Sunrise Movement will host these phone banks and cover areas where voters may be present. Apart from these phonebanks, Sunrisers from across the nation could be volunteering to call people that are in entirely different states than them. Additionally, Sunrisers will meet and talk to many Democratic politicians to further discuss the GND. The Sunrise Movement has good relations with big politicians such as AOC, Bernie Sanders, Ed Markey, Ilhan Omar, and etc. I chose to research the Sunrise Movement because I think that it aligns with some of the things that I am passionate about. The climate crisis is something that I have been passionate about for years and have worked with many organizations on it. Additionally, they have a unique approach in which they focus on notions of classism and racism that are embedded into the climate crisis-- which allows the movement to advocate and support various other causes and partner with organizations that can speak on these experiences.
